Le Parisien McAllen

It’s only recently I developed an appreciation for French Pastry. Unfortunately, I’ve haven’t been to France yet, so I’m basing my taste simply on places I’ve tried in the Philippines, New York City, and now McAllen, Texas. Take note the Philippines is a far place from France, but when the bakery is run by a French bakery and adjacent to the French consulate, I would hope they try to follow French standards!! As for New York, the competition is tough and there are a lot of French places to try. First impression: The prices kinda on the high side. Admittedly the size of the croissants are also bigger. I read a review in which the person observed sysco products being used which is commercial ingredients and I imagine cheaper than using regular ingredients, but I was not able to see that. The thought does take away from ambiance. Taste: IMHO, the texture and taste of the pastries are on point. The croissant had the right texture and layering and the apple tart had the right amount of sweetness. So if the bakery is using inferior ingredients,t the baker is making magic. As for ambiance, the place is really doing their best to be a cafe, and I do like the presentation of the bread in the basket. For as long as they can maintain the quality of the taste and texture, I plan to visit at times to have a croissant and try their other pastries.
